I know this class is about college teaching tips, but on Friday there will be a speaker on campus discussing how to broaden the view of K-12 classrooms to include student culture. I thought I'd let everyone know since some of the information might be applicable to college environment as well.

Thanks for posting this event info, Kate. Did you get a chance to attend?
ReplyDeleteI did attend. The speaker basically concluded with his research that high school students attend school with the idea in mind that it is just a hoop to jump through to get to the next stage of the game and with the goals of school being 1) fun 2) easy to understand. Teachers typically have more educational goals in mind and view school entirely differently, therefore we need to consider the student perspective as teachers.
ReplyDeleteInteresting. So was the speaker suggesting that high school teachers focus on how to make their course more fun / easier to understand?
